Valentine’s Day 2010

Hi you!

Hope you had a very nice Valentine’s day!

Ours was a day of overindulging!

Casey gave me my own copy of A Homemade Life: Stories and Recipes from my Kitchen Table and panda card!

The card gave me permission to overindulge yesterday so I did!

happy valentine's day to ME!

It’s a good thing I have my own copy now because I spilled a little butter on the library copy! Woops!

We started the day with Custard Cornbread leftovers!

doused with maple syrup

We played with Cooper. I ran errands and went to yoga.  When I got back,  I made us a little lunch:

fried egg with red chard on toast

I sauteed red chard with garlic, vinegar & olive oil.  Spread it over toast and topped it with a fried egg.

I made us Molly’s Winning Hearts and Minds chocolate cake from that very cookbook I just received.

I made us a  Simple Caesar Salad, buttery mashed potatoes & roasted an orangic chicken for dinner.

comfort food

We took the croutons I made and soaked them in the gravy of the roasting dish.

It was heaven.

And then we finished the meal with slices of the chocolate cake topped with fresh whipped cream.

dessert!

That cake was beyond amazing.  I’ll post the recipe soon!

It was a pretty delicatable day!

Ooh, I’ve been wanting to read that book! And PS: the croutons/bread crumbs are totally Alden’s favourite part of our weekly roast chickens. In fact, he often only wants to eat the stuffing. Sigh.

oooh! a weekly roasted chicken is a fantastic idea! especially the leftover part. I wish we could get cooper to eat anything on his bread….he is a butter only kinda kid. Which means he hasn’t discovered the joy of sandwiches yet. SIGH.

That entire day of food looks wonderful! I’m so glad you got make Molly’s chocolate cake – isn’t it amazing? It’s become our new birthday cake in my household.
