There was a scene in the recent episode of Parenthood that left me deep in thought. When John Corbett pretends to be the: I’m an ex-rocker who’s fallen off the wagon again. I’m back in Berkeley with my vintage leather jacket showing everyone who’s boss character… where does he go to get to that place? Does he pull from the time he was spending Northern Exposure money, getting absolutely toasted with girls from the Meyer’s Rum demo at that roach infested hotel in the Caribbean? I imagine the words DARK & STORMY pop into his head and he’s there.
Dark Rum. Ginger Beer. Lime. Like a Moscow Mule got introduced to Weekend at Bernies & The Perfect Storm.
Trust me on this one.
And we’re off!
This is not rocket science. There are three ingredients; you can handle this in your sleep.
So you take this slice of lime, right? And you SQUEEZE it into a glass of ice. Drop that lime in.
You still with me? Now you POUR ginger beer on top. Got it?
And then you put a LOT of dark rum in there. This means you have to brace yourself.
Remember this when you’re at drink #3:
SCARY DRUNK
Now put a straw in there; it goes down quicker. Uhhh ohhh. I think someone’s weekend just got weird!
Remember, orange straw for Autumn. It’s festive.
Dark & Stormy
makes 1 drink
- 1/4 lime
- 10 oz. ginger beer
- 2 oz. Meyer’s Rum (Original Dark)
Fill a 12 oz high ball glass with ice. Squeeze lime wedge on top of ice and then pour ginger beer on top. Finish with the shots of rum and drop the lime wedge into the glass. Stir to combine.

say somethingI literally laughed out loud when I read this walk through.
It looks amazing.
Thanks for being you.
Mission accomplished! Thank YOU.
This is my go-to cocktail right now. In fact, I think I might have one tonight!
We should have one together!
1) YES. These are amazing. 2) Why is ginger beer so ridiculously expensive?? 3) I asked for a Dark & Stormy once and they gave me two colored different beers, one poured over the over. What a disappointment.
uh huh. i like your fonts!
I will use Gosling’s Black Seal and it will be good
I will learn to love rum and then I’ll be stuck on the dark side….
This is my most favorite drink on the planet, well next to gin and tonics that is. Both gin and tonic’s (mostly Bombay Sapphire) and dark and stormy’s go down all too easy and I can drink a bunch of them! Oh yea I have a feeling we could get along all TOO well, not that this a bad thing!
not. at. all.
I could totally use one of those right now. Thanks for reminding me that this is an option after a tough day!!
Uh oh…my Thursday night just got weird! P.S. Moscow Mules, Gin Gin Mules and Dark and Stormys…best use of ginger beer ever.
join the club! Cheers!
Love that photo collaboration! I think I will treat a friend – and me – to some of these dark and stormy cocktails this weekend.
I need to make ginger beer a stable in my fridge!
THIS IS MY FAVORITE drink of all time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEA!
Let’s get drunk together one day!
Absolutely love a good dark & stormy…maybe too much. Love, love all the pretty photos. Makes me want one right now!
Haha, perfect description! I gotta go with Gosling’s Black Seal Rum alllll the way, though. It’s the original rum in the Dark n’ Stormy….
I have wanted to make one of these for a while. Do you think even a non-rum lover could enjoy it?
Yes. I am actually a non rum lover and I loved this. There’s your proof!
this looks like an easy-drinking kind of drink…I might just have to have one, or two! love the new header btw!
Thanks Cindy!
Damn, I might have to make this tomorrow;)
YAY!!! You made my day with this. My boyfriend and I have a favorite bar and we go and drink them when it is raining. LOVE THIS.
Next up I want to see a French 75!!
Whoa! I googled the recipe. That looks SOOOO good.
You would be all over this!!!! I promise you that!
I love good ginger ale, rum and lime … just never put the 3 together. This will be a must-try!
Thanks for sharing!
For a greater visual impact, do not stir the drink but float the rum on top. (to float, gently poor the rum over the back of a wide spoon so it is easily dispersed) enjoy watching the dark rum desend down into the ginger beer, like big dark rain clouds.
This is actually a Nova Scotian tradition. We have a great brewery Propeller which makes the best gingerbeer around, perfect for this recipe! You should also try gingerbeer, golden tequila and lime. It’s my fav, not as sweet.
I just might! I’m not a fan of tequila but somehow I feel like I could be with that combo!
ahh this is one of my favorite drinks, but I thought I invented it
My boyfriend and I are the only people I know around here who drink ginger beer! although it must be popular because it’s always selling out at the grocery store.
Heard this on the JTB podcast. . Ginger beer was 50% at the store today so it was meant to be. The only rum I have is 151 so I am feeling kind of nice right now.
