Valentine’s Day Decor 2011

Valentines 2011

It’s raining today & we’re stuck indoors so I declared today CRAFT DAY! I finally cleared off my Winter mantle decoration. I liked how it didn’t SCREAM Christmas, so I kept it up longer than usual. While Casey & Cooper were playing with trains downstairs, I started cutting up a few hearts out of cute craft paper. I forgot how fun it was to make them when I was a kid! Totally brought me back!

I framed a Jen Skelley print I got from Renegade Craft fair a few months ago. It was really the main inspiration for the mantle. Hearts, flowers & birds.

I taped the hearts on our mirror to sort of frame the clock & bird print. I’m not really a pink person and I’m not SUPER girly, so I decided on black, white & red for the Valentine’s color scheme. Plus it fits well in our black, white & gray living room so hooray for that.

On the left side of my mantle–I kept the branches from my Christmas mantle & added hearts to them. For the past few years I’ve always made everything uniform on both sides but now I’m ready for a change. I like the flow & balance of this without making everything match on both sides.

Here’s a little close up of one of my love birds. I got them at Urban Outfitters a couple of years ago and have been smitten with them ever since. That little stripey thing is actually part of a Johnathan Adler Salt & Pepper set I bought on sale up in Seattle awhile back. (SCORE!)

And here we have the right side of my mantle.

I got that No.1 plate on sale at Target. To the right is a recycled calendar page from an old Snow & Graham calendar. I scored the little black & white mug from my good pal Frecklewonder!

I added a few flowers to the branch here…I suppose I might do more of that come spring. We’ll see.

I love crafternoons! I especially love re-purposing stuff I already have in my house for a new holiday display. The best part is that I didn’t have to buy anything today!

Stay tuned for some Valentines treats & a fun little organizing GIVEAWAY– later this week!
