French Bread Pizza- 2 Ways

French Bread Pizza // shutterbean

When we were kids, my mom used to buy frozen french bread pizzas with the intention of giving us something to eat while she went out on a date night with my dad.  But when you have two growing boys and a daughter who knows her way around a microwave, well…you basically have trouble.  My mom would bring a few frozen pizza breads into the house and in a flash they’d be gone. We were sneaky kids!

Yesterday, Joy and I got the idea to make some French Bread Pizzas because it’s a versatile way for you to get all your favorite toppings into your mouth on a convienient delivery system—French Bread!  It’s also a really great way to customize lunch/dinner for people with different food interests. There were 4 total in our lineup and they were all INCREDIBLY delicious. I’m gonna show you my two. Let’s go through the whole process, shall we?

I have a thing for Greek pizza. I like to think of it as a more “salad-y” pizza. I also love the sharp bite you get with the onions & feta. So here’s my take on a Greek French Bread Pizza.  The flavors are magical!

What I like about it is that it can be served at room temperature.

Serve it with your favorite salad and you’ve got a healthy meal. I think it would also be great as an appetizer. Don’t you?

How do you make a French Bread Pizza? It’s easy.

Take a French Roll and slice it in half. Drizzle with olive oil and toast it in the oven.

This totally can be done with a toaster oven.

Toasted! We want a toasty base so we don’t have a soggy mess! We’re building a foundation.

I like to put cheese on the bottom before I load stuff on top. I think of it as edible glue!

Spinach & marinated artichokes go on top.

As do thin red onion slices, sun-dried tomatoes, basil, oregano and feta! Red pepper flakes make it spicy!

Add a little more mozzarella cheese on top. OVEN TIME.

The cheese gets melty and some of the spinach wilts. Your mouth is gonna go nuts for this.

Now we have another one of my favorite combinations.

Sausage, Peppers & Onions—-BUT we take it a step further and add an egg. Totally weekend breakfast material!
