Out & About: Austin, Texas

austintrip 0555

Hello hello!! I was recently in Austin and LOVED it. It was my first time visiting and am already plotting my return!

Here’s what my 2 1/2 day trip to Austin looked like.

Fresh off the airplane, I went & saw Joy & Catherine speak at the Blogher conference.

I have a tendency to put people in glasses while they are talking. It’s just something my brain does.

Conferences overwhelm me.

Afterwards we went for margaritas at Chupacabra Cantina. NOM.

I stayed at Hotel San Jose with Gaby, Catherine & Joy. SLUMBER PARTY!

Out & About: Austin, Texas

The hotel was exquisite! They were screening Friday Night Lights in the parking lot & Gaby got to take a few pictures with some of the cast. Talk about memorable! Also…I need to watch that show. I’ve never seen it. I know I KNOW!

It’s super lush with greenery everywhere at the Hotel San Jose. A true oasis. I highly recommend it.

On the first night we went to Olivia for dinner

We had an intimate dinner—just us 6 ladies. I love my friends- Joy, Catherine, Gaby, Aida, Lisa & Heather.

Joy & I were obsessed with STAG. It’s a shop for men. Such cool stuff in there.

We went BACK TO OLIVIA for lunch with Applegate Farms!

We got to chill with this cool cat while listening to some Tenacious D before lunch started.

Out & About: Austin, Texas

UNREAL burger. I actually liked lunch at Olivia better than dinner. Go figure and THANKS APPLEGATE!

Back to the HOTEL.

We went to the dinner at BlogHer. It was outside. There was BBQ.

Out & About: Austin, Texas

There was a band! There was dancing!  We met new friends!

That may or may not be someone rushing the stage…

Fancy drinks later. I drove in an Element. It was rad.

Next morning I explored a bit. It rained and then the sun came out.

A fantastic breakfast at Contigo with Kristin & Becca.

I tried their El Pepino. It was awesome. I had two. Cucumber, mint & tequila.

Met up with my friend Sabrina and we poked around Uncommon Objects.

That place is rad. I’m pretty sure I wasn’t allowed to snap this…

Hidden treasures everywhere you look.

Tracy, I am a native Texan. I lived in Austin for college and moved back to Houston to be closer to family. However, my sister still lives there and I visit often. Hotel San Jose is our fave place to stay. I love the California feel its got going on…so peaceful and serene. So glad you had such a fantastic time…next time make it a weeks trip there is sooooo much more to see and EAT! 🙂

  • Michelle @ FullyBellyWornSoles

Looks like a great trip! So awesome that you were able to get away with your girls 🙂

I’m from Austin (but don’t live there anymore, sniff) and it is the best city on earth. Next time you go I’ve got a whole list of other awesome places you should try 😉

    • Molly

I’m headed to Austin in a few weeks… what are your recommendations?! Shopping, eating, etc.

      • Tracy

If you read the post, I highlighted all of the places I went in Austin in the short amount of time. It was my first time there– I recommend where we went!

  • stacy

Tracy, when you come back warn us Austinites in a blog post so we can tell you more cool stuff to do here! So glad you loved my fair city. I’d love to have a marg with you. I’m pretty sure that would be awesome. xx

  • Maria Tadic

That burger looks ridiculous! I love the photograph – it’s so tall. And that pin on the plate is hilarious! My husband loves Austin! I hope to visit with him next time he goes to a conference. I always hear wonderful things about the food, music and art scene there!

  • Cheryl

Oh I’ll put the charming Hotel San Jose on my list for next year when I visit Austin with my husband. I also appreciate a good burger joint! That burger is HUGE! Wow how do you eat that? 🙂 I so want to dig into that.

  • Shawna Greenway

Yeah, I’m pretty sure there are big “No Pictures” signs everywhere in Uncommon Objects. But really, that place is so chock full of junk, I mean OBJECTS, that who could really tell what anyone is doing in there!

Did you go to the food trucks on South Congress? Honestly, I think the ones we have here in the Bay Area are better but don’t tell my family back in Texas that I said that!

    • Tracy

The signs might have blended in…a little too well 😉 I didn’t go to the food trucks. Next time!

  • judith

Welcome to the Great State of Texas we’re glad you were able to visit and come back real soon. As for Austin, it’s the city where a huge percentage of residents of Texas long to live. Our daughter just moved from Sedona to Austin. She loves it.

  • tara

I love Austin! So glad you had a good time!

  • Slone Ranger

So bummed that I missed the conference (we were out of town). Thanks for the fun post! Looks like you all had a great time. You’ll have to visit Austin again soon!

  • Jessica

To help you plan for next time: http://austinfoodbloggers.org/city-guide/ Also, Paul Qui’s restaurant (Qui) is opening soon, which everyone is spazzing out about.

I saw you and Joy at Stubb’s, but was too shy and would have felt like a total weirdo saying hi. Glad you enjoyed it here! Contigo is a definite favorite.

  • Stacey

I love that you loved Austin! Such a rad place. Where did you get those magnificent sunglasses?

  • mia

I hope to go to Austin someday….looks like my kind of place for sure 🙂

  • Tina

Love the photos you took. You got some great shots. The scenery looks gorgeous and the food looks mouthwatering!!

  • Jayne

I love the food you had and the little nooks and cranies you got into. Texas is a place I’ve always wanted to visit.

  • sophia

i commented a few posts ago about your hair and how you’ve inspired me to chop mine…and i took the plunge! we have almost exactly the same hair cut right now – it’s super fun to style (and summer easy). my best friend lives in Austin and I’ve never seen any of those spots, my next trip will include some of them…

    • Tracy

Fantastic!!! Isn’t it easy?? I always love seeing what condition it is in the morning. HELLO BEDHEAD!!! 🙂

  • Heather Christo

So cute!! I’m sad I missed those Chilaquilles and lunch at Olivia! (you are right- it looked much better than dinner!!) I did not however miss the getting eaten alive by mosquitos part. That happened…..
