You know when people ask you what you what you would do if money wasn’t an object? My answer is always to be Anthony Bourdain.

This is my fave blog post to read every Friday. So glad you post it early. Kids are out the door and I can sit and surf with my coffee. Highlight!!!!

  • Abby @ The Frosted Vegan

I made that roasted strawberry lemonade and OMG it’s so good!

  • Kate

The photos of Normandy are amazing!

Interesting article about leaving kids in the car. A similar thing happened to a friend of mine because the person who called the police couldn’t see her mom sitting in the back of the minivan with the tinted windows. It was an ugly scene 🙁

Not sure if my comment got eaten (I hit a dead wifi spot) so feel free to delete this if it’s a copy.

I read that story about the kid in the car yesterday. It made me feel so confused about life. Ugh.

    That dedication was hilarious!

    Amazing links, as always.

I really enjoyed that article about the lady who left her kid in the car. Most definitely thought provoking and I have to say, I agree that a lot of the concern and anxiety surrounding kids these days (an no, I don’t have my own, so that’s okay if I’m kind of speaking out of my ass), but I think a lot of it has to do with the sheer availability of scary information involving others children. Before if something happened, it stayed, for the most part, local, but now this information is available to everyone in an instant, which makes it seem all too possible that it can happen to your own child. Very interesting.

Love the Lisa Congdon post, beautiful!

That essay about leaving the kid in the car — wow. So well-written.

I’ve had this thought many times since becoming a parent:

“It’s almost as though, in the course of a few decades, we’ve all developed a cultural anxiety disorder around our children, and when I mull over this idea, I don’t feel anger or indignation over what’s happening, but an awful sort of sympathy.”

I mourn for the childhood that my kid will never know, of roaming free and exploring her independence. Safety can come at a pretty big price. Unfortunately we won’t really know the side effects of our society’s overprotectiveness of our children until it’s too late.

Dude, you get emails like that??? Seriously I feel like creative individuals get walked on. As an accountant, even when nonprofits or family ask me to help them out, they always expect to compensate me- nobody asks for my services for free!

  • Samantha Biobabbler

I could stare at that water photo ALLL DAYYYYY. Photo therapy.

  • Allie

Thanks so much for the link back, and for the awesome recipe – that mexican popcorn is UNbelievably good.

I’ve been so inspired by your “I love lists Fridays” I incorporated my own on my blog called “Link Love.” I think it’s such a fun concept, and it gives you a chance to share your finds around the web each week. P.S. you’re awesome.
