My Everyday Life: Week 7

Here’s what this past week looked like:

Made a special breakfast for Cooper. Was told he didn’t want jam on his bread and was upset that he got strawberries instead of banana. Kids!!

My Everyday Life: Week 7

Writing his Valentine’s cards with his Star Wars pen.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

Making a heap ton of Cinnamon Sugar Tortilla Chips for his valentines.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

I packaged them up and attached a card to each.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

This was the first Valentine’s Day in a long time that Casey and I went out to dinner at Fast Food Francais in Sausalito.

I really liked their fried chicken sandwich and the Brussels Sprouts chips!

We usually have a nice dinner at home because restaurants on V-day can be challenging.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

Mt. Tam at night.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

I love these happy accident shots.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

I love it when Pinot’s pupils are dilated.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

Nope…I’m not wearing a beret. I just need a haircut real bad. Also striped shirt under polka dot sweater for the win!

This sweater came from my latest Stitch Fix box. LOVE IT.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

Pineapple, banana & apple chips. My food dehydrator got quite a workout this week.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

A recipe that I can’t wait to share with you soon!

My Everyday Life: Week 7

Did Soul Cycle for the first time today!  Loved it.  Just wish it wasn’t so expensive.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

Saturday morning Science. Casey is teaching Cooper about temperatures.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

Dreaming of cake while eating a salad.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

Rushing out for date night and caught this.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

We’re almost caught up with True Detective. Have you seen it? I’m OBSESSED. We watched Dallas Buyers Club last weekend and I’m super impressed with Matthew McConaughey. I love that he’s doing darker/dramatic roles and shying away from romantic comedies. He’s so talented!

Also I love the caption on this one 😉

My Everyday Life: Week 7

If you’ve made the cinnamon sugar tortilla chips, you know they don’t last long… #addictive

My Everyday Life: Week 7

An amazing salad I am going to recreate.

The Golden Gate Bridge blanketed with fog.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

I liked this guy’s socks.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

A nice little treasure in San Francisco.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

I love foggy mornings.

A magic ray of light.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

Brunch at home.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

I’m on my third week of a workout kick.  Really hoping to keep it up! It’s been such a good stress reliever.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

I set up my Bullet Journal this week. I am using a extra large soft cover moleskine with grids.

GAME CHANGER. SERIOUSLY. DO IT.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

Like a painting.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

I made the Tamale Pie from Mad Hungry Cravings by Lucinda Scala Quinn this week.

It’s SOOOO nice to cook from a cookbook and not have to document the whole process. It’s surprisingly faster and I can focus on the recipe style/writing. It feels like a real treat to not be a slave to lighting and time. It’s a good way to get out of a food rut.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

Casey wanted fish so I made up a maple soy salmon deal with kale & coconut brown rice.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

A surprise visit from Joy. She got to try my doughnuts. I’m not even mad she got powdered sugar everywhere.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

He’s been obsessed with wearing his Spiderman outfit around the house.

It reminds me of that episode of Arrested Development. “More than you’ll NEVER KNOW.”

My Everyday Life: Week 7

The freeway exit reminded me of Rome for 2 seconds.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

On the way to get pho.

My Everyday Life: Week 7

Hope you have a great weekend!!

  • Marisa @ Uproot from Oregon

Love this series. Glad you are enjoying your exercise routing and new food! I agree that it is really fun sometimes to make other people’s recipes and not worry about photos.

  • Victoria

So many good pictures this week!!!

Last night I made the Tamale Pie (I promised myself it would happen Friday and I looked forward to it all week)! It was really good, but I’m going to play with it a little bit more – I’m thinking chili powder needs a place in it and maybe extra cheese mixed in with the meat instead of just the bread. I like to keep things healthy you know! 😉

I’m looking forward to some cinnamon sugar tortillas sometime soon and after this post I’m looking forward to that salad you’re going to recreate.

Enjoy the fog, your cute kiddo, and the days left with Joy dropping in!

    • Tracy

I definitely think chili powder is in order! I added pickled jalapenos to the topping to add spice. I kinda thought the meat would be a little spicier. I upped the cumin too! 🙂

      • Victoria

I’ve got cumin haters in my house so I always cut it way down, but I’m going to add more next time! The way it turned out was a little too spaghetti/sloppy joe tasting for me. Next time: cheese in with the meat, more cumin, chili powder, and some extra jalapenos. Also, I added about 1/3 c. salsa in with the meat in an attempt to help, I’ll be sure to do that next time too!

  • Amanda

Great fog pictures, love the one with the Bridge! Totally going to start Bullet Journaling, so glad you shared that!

  • Haley @ Cheap Recipe Blog

Ooh, what a picturesque week you’ve had! I absolutely must make those cinnamon-sugar tortilla chips. Look so easy & cheap too 🙂

  • meg

OK, I would totally love to know more about the game changing qualities of the bullet journal. I very much need a better method — do tell!

  • Linnea

The #catselfie made me laugh out loud.

Love these weekly peeks into your life! Keepin’ things real…

  • Lily (A Rhubarb Rhapsody)

The fried pizza dough looks like a rather tasty morsel. No wonder you were staring at the fog, it looks like something out of a movie! We rarely get fog and if we do it’s never thick.

  • Ellie

I’m obsessed with that catselfie photo!

  • jamie levine

Totally see the Rome in that pic. I do that a lot with places. Great looking week you had!

  • Helen @ Scrummy Lane

You’re a great photographer! Particularly love the look of that salad you’re going to make!

  • shelly@ohshellsbells

i have a black kitty too! i looove it when his pupils are dilated sooo big you can’t really see his irises anymore. then he’s really all black and looks so sweet. ok, ok, I’ll stop talking about my cat. great pictures!

  • Helen

Great photos again! I love the shots of the clouds in the sky that you take. I would love to see a shot of the starry night sky too.

  • Claire @Lemon Jelly Cake

I LOVE cooking without the pressure of time or light. It’s part of why I (almost) never post new-to-me recipes. It’s just too much to try and balance all at once. I like to figure out a recipe, make any changes, and then if it’s worth repeating, make it again to photograph. It saves me the stress of taking photos of a whole recipe and then finding out at the end that it’s not that great and therefore not blog-worthy. 🙂 (Because that has happened… too many times…)

Also, it’s a bit bizarre to see an entire week without any snow in it . . . I can’t believe there are flowers blooming! So beautiful!

  • Rose

    The rain, the rain…hurray!

  • Nan Doyle

Wonderful photos this week – really inspired and fun to look at!

  • talkradio

Wow! The Bullet Journal sounds like a game changer, indeed! I’ve inconsistently done a version of this with a graph paper composition notebook (graph paper is my jam), but this sounds way better.

I must make that tamale pie.

  • kimj

gimme that “made up” salmon recipe.. drooling…

  • Diane Beebe

    I don’t think I can express how much I love your photography……. 🙂

  • Emily @ Life on Food

I am not a huge salad fan in the winter but yours always looks so good. It is all of the toppings.

  • Christina G

My first comment, although i have been loving your “space” for a long time. Can you do a post on the bullet journal? I’ve been seeing it everywhere and I am so tempted but, I am curious about the future planning aspect. I use paper planners and have never quite found the “one” and feel that this could work. Thanks so much for sharing and have a great day!

  • Jenna

I just starting reading your blog after I listened to the Joy the Baker podcast. You and Joy keep me company on my hour commute to school and back. So far I have made it to episode 50.

Back to you. I’m loving the “My Everyday Life” series. The pictures are so inspiring. Keep the awesome posts coming! <3

  • Rebecca Eats

I like what you said about cooking something impressive and yet not photographing it… or not having to think of recipe directions while making it. It’s freeing for the mind and really does impose more creativity.

  • fusilliamy

This is me after I watched the bullet journal video. I’m numbering my pages right now… http://mashable.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/30-Rock.gif

I love the water droplets on the blossom! I’m so ready for things to bloom.

  • Ryan

I feel the same about Matthew McConaughey
Hooked on TD and LOVED him in Dallas Buyers Club
he has been a fave of mine long before the Romantic comedies.

  • Diane, A Broad

Bullet journal! I feel like this is going to change my life.

  • Andrea

    Hi Tracy,
first off i love your photos. I keep noticing the word cards that are by your kitchen window for Cooper. did you make those yourself or did you buy them? I would love to do something like that for my 5 year old daughter Lily. If you happened to of purchased them, do you mind letting me know from where? I need to get my hands on those.

    Thanks so much!
    Andrea

  • stacy

True Detective. Obsessed as well! I’m totally with you on McConaughey. He usually annoys the crap out of me but I love this role! He really is talented, as much as I hate to admit it. Did you ever get into The Killing? I like True Detective even more, which is saying a lot!

  • Lizy Tish

Wow – busy week with beautiful pictures! That cake next to the salad looks yummy – Boston Cream? If so, THAT IS MY FAVORITE!

  • Lynn

Hi – how is the bullet journal coming along – do you still find it useful? I am on the fense.

    Thanks,
    ~L

  • Kelsey

Question about your bullet journal: I just started mine about a week ago, but I can’t figure out the best way to jot down future tasks (doctor’s appointment next month, staff meeting next monday, etc.) I don’t want to waste valuable space in the monthly calendar if I can help it, and I don’t want to put it on the adjacent monthly tasks page. I made monthly sections up to May, with four days to a page but I’m worried that space will be too small for each day.

Ok I’m super paranoid and anal about my notebooks, it’s a real thing. How do you organize yours in this respect?

    • Tracy

I think the idea of the bullet journal is to enter as you go. You only work on the month you’re in. Maybe you can make a few pages in the back of reminders for months coming up and you can do something like:

      April:
      -get the car checked
      -clean out cupboards

      May:
      -birthday party

and so on… If you’re planning to much ahead, you’re not leaving space for the current and that’s what’s the most important part of it is. Also- you can always put things in post-its and add them to your page. That might be a good way to help combat that to.
