My Everyday Life: Week 48

Here’s what this past week looked like- My Everyday Life week 48

My mom had her salad dressing in the fridge. I made a salad with it.

We all ate it. It made me happy/sad.

I started with the pantry so my Dad would have a clean slate.

We went through my mom’s old records and hung them up in our garage.

They were the ones that were too damaged to play.

This Moody Blues cover caught my eye and the Barbara Streisand picture looked like my Mom from behind.

Hi Tracy, beautiful photos and words as always – thank you for sharing, even at a time like this. I’m glad you’re surrounded by love while you experience such a huge loss. When you opened the ‘Best friends’ box and found the picture of you and your mum, I cried, so I can only imagine how you felt. Thinking of you all the way from Scotland and wishing you peace this coming week.

  • Kristin

Not the week you expected, but you still found so much beauty, as you always seem to do. The best friends box…oh wow. Still thinking of you, and hoping that you are well.

  • Dominique

Tracey, I have been following your blog for years. My heart goes out to you and your family. Your posts and the way you speak about your mom have been so beautiful and so touching, it brought me to tears. I will definitely be hugging my mom a little tighter this week because of you <3

  • Amy

I’m so sorry for your loss. I look forward to your everyday life posts on sundays because of the beauty you find and share. I feel like your mother was very proud of the beautiful life you choose to live. Praying for comfort for you and your family in this season.

  • Catherine

I love that you find beauty in all things…even when they seem a bit sad and/or painful. Reframing moments to look for the positive has really helped to ease some of my anxieties. Thanks for helping with that, Tracy! I am grateful to you. Continually sending you lots of love, healing and support.

  • Jessica

Thank you for always finding the beauty in small things. You have helped to teach me this, and it has helped me immensely. I hope that it is helping you in this difficult time. Much love to you and your family. <3

  • ELLEN

“When you lose someone you love, you gain an Angel you know” – unknown. Sending hugs and hope as you continue on this new and difficult path.

  • Diane

Oh Tracy! What you have been sharing is so powerful, vunerable, and moving! I’m thinking about you often (always when I’m cooking.) Your updates stop me in my tracks. It’s nice to see you back to your regularly scheduled posts but please, take all the time you need to get through this. Thank you for showing us all how beautiful you and your family are – especially your love for your mom.

  • AshleyJ

    Hi Tracy,
I’ve been thinking about you and your family the past week. Even though we’ve never met, I have enjoyed following along & being inspired by your recipes, art, and bits of your life you share here. Just wanted to let you know I’ll be making artichoke squares in honor of your mom this holiday season. xoxo

  • Rachel

I am so sorry for your loss. I am going through the same thing, and that to-do list looked very similar to mine a month ago. I hope you find strength in the memories you shared with your mom, and in the love and support of those around you. This is a hard thing to go through, especially this time of year.

  • caitlin

thank you for sharing, Tracy. this time of year is so hard anyway, I hope you know you are loved and appreciated for being yourself and staying steady during this difficult time. your mom loves you and is so proud of you. <3 hope you're taking all the time you need to be with family, your readers will always be here. still sending you love and peaceful thoughts

  • Judi Cowart

Tracy, sending you love and hugs and tears and prayers. I pray that God would give you peace, and that you and your family find comfort in Him and in each other and the beautiful life your mom created and passed on to you. My your life continue to be a reflection of her beauty.

  • Stacy

I can relate to so much of what you are going through right now. I remember after my mom died suddenly 7 years ago that I realized how much all of us are going through at any given moment. Some of it is truly earth-shattering, like the loss of a beloved parent, and some less so, but it gave me so much compassion for people. You just never know what someone is going through.

I can also relate to the box of cards and mementos that my mom had kept–so many cards I had written to her over the years, And the trips to Goodwill and going through things. I love that I still wear a lot of her clothes, even years later.

Big hug to you and your family. Your mom sounds like she was awesome.

  • Edlyn

    Hey Tracy,

I’m so in awe of your kind spirit and the way in which you are honoring your mom. You are a fantastic daughter and an huge role model to me. The Holiday season tests us a lot in many different ways but your resilience truly shines through. Take care of yourself.

  • Helen Jane

I love you so much. Good grief, am I right?

  • Kate

I keep re-writing this post and no words seem right. Just sending love your way!

  • Allyn

Tracy, I’ve followed your blog for so many years, and you’ve been on my heart nonstop since you posted about your mom. I can’t even begin to tell you how sorry I am, how heartbroken I am for your loss. The past few years have taught me more about grief than I would ever have like due to multiple miscarriages. As hard as it is to grieve for something I hoped for, loved, and lost, it’s made me so much closer to my mom. I can’t imagine losing her, and your news has made me cling to her more than ever and treasure our relationship.
All love and prayers sent to you and your family, that you would feel her love and presence around you every day, and that you would all become even closer to one another.

  • Elizabeth

    Tracy,

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful artistic talent with us all – your posts about your mother are truly lovely. I lost my own mother almost 10 years ago, when my children were 7, 5, and 2 1/2. I am thankful that they were able to know her. What I learned from her passing is that you do not pass through grief in neat stages, like a list you check off, and never have to pass through that stage again. On the contrary, the stages of grief are like a continuous circle. You will pass through them in no particular order, and more than one time. Be patient with yourself, this is the process of healing. The grief for your mother is something that you will carry for the rest of your life, however, the weight of it will gradually lighten, and it will become easier to carry. Eventually you will be able to think of her without being consumed by deep grief, but will still hold her memory and the love she shared with you deep in your heart. Much peace to you and your family!

i come here all the time.
    i don’t comment often.
but i just wanted to say big big hugs to you

I am so far behind in my blog reading…. I’m so sorry to hear about your mom and found myself tearing up reading your post. I lost my mom a few years ago. When I picked up her ashes and was walking around numb, a woman stopped me to ask who I’d lost, and she said, “The first year will be the hardest of your life, but it’ll get better.” And she was right. It’ll always hurt, but eventually there will be more smiles at memories than astonished sadness. Thinking of you.
