My Everyday Life: Week 50

Here’s what this past week looked like- My Everyday Life Week 50

This week I took a pause on helping my Dad clean out/organize the house and I tried to focus a little more on getting my life back together. My house is a mess! This week I took a break and drove around Marin County and dropped off some of my mom’s unused crossword puzzle books at some mini free libraries.  I plan on doing this with some of her other books.

I know she would have thought that was neat.

One of the weird thoughts you can have when you are grieving is…

WHY IS SHE ALIVE AND MY MOM IS NOT?

It’s really a weird feeling to have. I never thought it before

Last night we hosted a sleepover- my Dad, brother-in-law, and nephew spent the night.

5 guys and me.  I really missed having my Mom in the kitchen with me.

It felt very weird and sometimes sad, but I was happy that my Dad spent the night! 🙂

Oh, I am so glad you mentioned that thought. I have looked at so many older men and wondered why they are alive and my dad isn’t. I kind of felt like a terrible person, but now I feel better.

    • Siobhan

Kristin and Tracy – I had these thoughts also. My mom passed in 1985 and I still remember thinking why other people were sitll alive and why everyone was going about their everyday lives – didn’t they know my mom had died? I’m in awe of your attitude and courage Tracy. Sending you hugs from Ireland.

      • Natalie

Yes, friends. My dad died when I was a kid and I still think that sometimes and it’s not pretty, but it’s true. Grief is always there. It just changes over time.

  • Jane M

Oh boy – you don’t know how many times I thought why is “so and so” still alive and my Mom is not?!?!? I was so undone that I got shingles – gaaaah! I am better and have come thru to the other side- with time you will too. PS I went to a book signing in my town bookstore last night and met Smitten Kitchen! Weeeeee! And I just finished up baking a batch of rugelach! Take Care – ♥️ Jane M

Jane…I got to see Deb earlier in the month. Isn’t she GREAT?!

I’m aging right into your grandmother. Hugging you from up North!

I see folks on BART and ask, too, why they’re here and not my sister and dad. I lost both of them within 13 months. Grief can be debilitating but it’s nice to see you coping by appreciating and recognizing the blessings surrounding you – it’s not easy for some.

  • Jennifer

I see you in your grandfather’s smile 🙂

Tracy, 4 years ago tomorrow my mother passed away. I feel what you are going through. I have spent the last 18 months helping my daughter and then my best friend after they lost close loved ones. We are alone but we can walk together through the grief. I am sorry for your loss, and send you my best wishes for the holidays and beyond.

  • Alicia A

I love hearing your feelings about your mom……my mom will be 82 in a few weeks.

  • Susan

Your photo of your grandparents is wonderful. My dad died this summer from a long illness and it was amazing what we found in the boxes and drawers. Also I think sharing your mom’# books at the free libraries is just lovely.
