Thanksgiving Decor 2010
I was getting my house tidy last week for a certain house guest, and got motivated to take down my Halloween decorations. I normally keep them up until after Thanksgiving, but I kind of missed the clock that rests in the center of the mantle. I never realized how much I look at the clock until I took it away. I'd catch myself looking at the glittered black skull in the center of the mantle for the time! DOH!
I wondered if I should really decorate for Thanksgiving? Christmas is just around the corner...do I need to put that much effort in? YES and NO!
So I simply took away the spiders, web & snakes.
My silver birds made another appearance! I left up my white pumpkins too.
And framed a THANK YOU note, to keep in the spirit of Thanksgiving.
It will do! I'm excited for Christmas coming up! EEEEK!
But for now I have a nice little reminder to be thankful for all the good things I have in my life.
Thank you!

Halloween Decor 2010
Our living room is decorated for Halloween!
I put some black glittered pumpkins up....
And decorated our mantle.
I got a cool black glittered skull from Target. Creepy!
Spiders littered everywhere.
A few snakes too...
I put cheesecloth over the mirror with my Halloween banner.
I like the effect!
And bits of orange make their way into other parts of the house....
Some spiders & white pumpkins.
And a new glittered skeleton for our front door!
This is what it looked like last year!!

Craft Project: Silhouette Portrait!
I've been wanting to do a silhouette portrait of Cooper since the day he was born!
In the midst of our super busy Labor Day weekend, I finally busted one out!
I used this contrasty photograph of him in front of our sunny guest room curtains.

I played around in Photoshop- cropping out his silhouette from the background...
I printed out a copy and traced it onto a thick piece of black card stock-then I cut that out.
I lined our fancy IKEA frame with yellow striped fabric and taped his portrait on top.
And here it is! (so far)
I'm going to enlist the help of my neighbor to write COOPER in her perfect/scripty handwriting.
I'll place that underneath his portrait.
It feels really good to have that done. I keep staring at it because it totally looks like him--especially in the nose & lip area!
I'm really enjoying all the yellow accents in my living room. Can't wait to decorate my mantle for Halloween!!!

my love for mason jars
If you've been on Shutterbean before, you might notice that I like to drink out of mason jars.
My best friend got me hooked when I lived up in Oregon!! There's just something about the weight & thickness of a jar that makes me like it. I also know that out of a room full of cups, I can easily spot mine. A few of my jars have the ounces labeled on the side! It's pretty handy when I need to measure out a drink, or account for how many oz. of water I drank! A huge plus when I can put a lid on one and take it on the go!
I think its funny that people find it weird to drink out of jars. I often get "you're drinking out of a jar!" As if I didn't know....
This little delicate little jar/votive ceramic piece has found it's home in our living room.
It's a little birthday gift from a good friend. Isn't it pretty? I can't wait to see it lit up with a candle inside!
She knows how much I love mason jars! I wish I could have a dozen of these!
You see what it's sitting on? The first issue of 3191 quarterly. It arrived two days ago!
I absolutely adore the work of Stephanie & Mav!
Happy Birthday to me!

new obsession: terrariums!

I've been wanting to make some for awhile. I've seen TONS and TONS of images of them on the 'net. I made today "MAKE A TERRARIUM" day. Why did I wait so long to do so?
I found a nice lil tutorial over here at designsponge. It's awesome! I had no idea how easy it was to do.
It took a trip to Home Depot, a stop at IKEA for jar and a trip to Salvation Army to get another container.
Took me about an hour or so to complete all three of them. I got kinda overboard and made another one while Cooper napped.
Take a look!
