#19. Cook something with my husband

We can cross something off my 31 comes before 32 list!

#19. Cook something with my husband.

You might remember that Casey gifted me a "couples" cooking class this Valentine's Day. On Friday we went to the Date Night: Parisian Bistro class at our local Sur La Table. It was great!!!  Casey learned a few major cooking basics and I got to learn how to make awesome french fries and perfect profiteroles (BTW those two items are on my 31 comes before 32 list). Watch out-- I hope to bust those out soon!

The Parisian Bistro Menu Included:

  • Mussels Meuniere
  • Seared Hanger Steak with Red Wine Reduction and Watercress
  • Frites (from scratch!!)
  • Profiteroles Vanilla Ice Cream and Chocolate Sauce

Casey’s Birthday Dinner at Flea St. Cafe

A friend asked me what I made for Casey's birthday on Sunday and besides fulfilling his breakfast request of bacon, eggs & toast, I made dinner plans! After having Cooper, we don't have the luxury of going out to fancy dinners like we used to, so I jump at any excuse to make a dinner reservation! Parents of littles, you know what I'm talkin' about!

We went to a cozy little restaurant called Flea St. Cafe in Menlo Park. We had such a wonderful time on our first visit last summer that I couldn't wait to see what they would come up with on their Early Spring menu. The restaurant serves nothing but local, flavorful and sustainable foods and the ambiance is charming & quaint! It's almost as if you've been invited to a friend's home for dinner- I love that. On a rainy Sunday evening, it was the perfect place to celebrate another year for Casey.

Here's what we had!

Girls Weekend!

This past weekend, one of my best friends flew down from Portland, Oregon for a visit. The second Jessica got off the plane, we figured out our food plans for the next few days. Our get-togethers always revolve around food, which is why I love her so much! We are really good eating buddies.

The Italian Feast

A week before Christmas Eve, I was making ravioli with my mom for our Italian Feast.

my contribution

It took over 4 hours of work.  They were patiently waiting in my freezer for this special occasion!

They were worth the effort! I'll post the recipe this week...

Thank you for the Birthday wishes!!!!

You are all soo sweet and awesome. You helped make my birthday SOOO special. You have no idea!

Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!!!

Over a week ago, I vowed to eat healthy so I could totally go nuts on my birthday.  If you are gonna go big, you might as well do it on your birthday, right?!  I totally GORGED myself and rembered what it's like to have my stomach reach it's maximum capacity! Not pleasant...but totally worth it---especially the dessert part!  Be patient, we will get to that in a second!

I started the day off by SMOTHERING coconut oil on my toast for breakfast (sorry not pictured). I'm like totally IN LOVE with coconut oil lately! It deserves its own post for sure! Look out for that soon!

My dad took me out to a really yummy Seafood lunch@ Swan Oyster Depot in SF for lunch!

We always get there pretty early to get a seat. I love going there with him. It's really old-timey & fun.

I thought it was funny to see a Keep Calm and Carry On poster on their walls!

I ordered an Anchor Steam & we got a dozen cherrystone clams on the half shell to start with.

A Thomas Keller Weekend

winetime

We had the opportunity to go up to Napa this weekend to celebrate my niece's 8th grade graduation and my sister-in-law's big 4-0! While my parents watched Cooper overnight, Casey and I were able to act like adults and have two amazing meals from two Thomas Keller restaurants in Yountville. We went to Bouchon on Saturday afternoon and Ad Hoc for Sunday brunch!  Everything was absolutely wonderful!

Wanna see what we ate? Continue reading→
