Orange Ginger Pepper Carrot Juice

We had a tough week last week. Within the first few days of 2011, I was plagued with a massive head cold. As soon as I started to feel better, Casey was down and so was Cooper. Unfortunately, Coop's sleeping schedule was reminiscent of the newborn phase and the poor guy was barely eating (the horror!) Basically, it was the antithesis of fun. The good news?  We are all on the mend and I think I have this new juice to thank for that!

It's really important to get in a lot of fluids in when you're sick. This juice will totally help with that. Not only is it LOADED with Vitamin C, it's deliciously sweet and has a tinge of heat from the ginger. It's so vibrant that you'll still be able to taste it when you're taste buds are all messed up. Just look at the color, and you know you are putting something good in your body. Cheers to fighting colds!

Last year’s resolution: JUICE MORE!

Ahhh resolutions! Did you come up with some good ones? I'm still trying to think about what I want to accomplish in 2011. I already have my 31 comes before 32 list to keep me busy, so I'll have to get back to you on that!

In 2010, I made these two:

1.  Juice more.

2. Go on more hikes with my family.

I took about 3 hikes in 2010. It was more than I had anticipated, but not as much as I'd hoped for.  Hopefully I will hike more in 2011 because I love being outdoors.  Either way, I know being more active is making its way onto my 2011 list.

Juice more! I'm happy to report that I did JUICE MORE in 2010. I came up with a few concoctions besides my favorite go-to juice, Carrot Apple Ginger.  In the process, I enjoyed playing with fonts throughout the year on my juice posts. It kept my brain active & helped me channel my love for typography.

Let's take a look!

Green Energy Shake

GREEN ENERGY SHAKE!!!

For some reason when I think GREEN ENERGY SHAKE, I imagine Oprah screaming it.

"Please welcome GREEEEEN ENerGYYYYY SHAAAAAAAAKE!!!!"  And through the side door, the shake shuffles onto the brightly lit stage, spotlights are flashing and Oprah sweeps up the glass, pulling the straw to her mouth. She's only supposed to take a small sip because she's got a paragraph to read on the teleprompter, but she's so shocked at how good it tastes, she takes an enormous gulp. There's a pause on live TV.... and suddenly she's rocking back and forth, raising her hands to the sky, praising this healthy concoction. It's totally green, yet tastes sweet & refreshing! She surprised how good the dates make it!  "Hallelujah," she screams!

YOU. CAN. BLEND. KAAAAAALE!

Quick someone write a book about it, cuz it's totally going on the book club!

Kale Apple Ginger Juice

you know it!

KALE! I want to eat it, roast it, saute it, shove it into my mouth any which way, and now I want to drink it. Ever since Halloween, I've been eating too many sweets---though my recent posts could have told you that.  So yesterday I needed GREEN JUICE to balance out my insane sweet tooth. Here's what I made!

kale apple ginger

I added an apple to the kale to sweeten it up and threw a knob of ginger in there cuz I wanted it spicy. Result? FAB. I always feel like I could move boulders when I drink kale. It's an instant boost.

Green Lemonade

green lemonade

Ahhh yes! I'm back on juicing! Life kinda got in the way!

apple, romaine lettuce, lemon

I found this *recipe* for Green Lemonade in the latest Whole Living Magazine. I had all the ingredients and gave it a try. Genius! The apples provide the sweetness you need in a lemonade. The head of romaine lettuce gives the green element & the extra juice you need to dilute the lemon & apple juice.

Pineapple Mango Carrot Ginger Juice

today's juice

That's a mouthful, huh? I've had this mango and pineapple sitting in my kitchen staring me in the face all week. Today was their peak day of ripeness so I rolled up my sleeves and cut them up and juiced. With a few carrots and ginger added to the mix, we have ourselves a little tasty afternoon beverage! It's definitely thirst quenching on a hot day. With a little kick from the ginger, it's sweet & spicy! Me likey.

what's in it?

In my juicing research, I've seen a few sources discuss how great it is to freeze pineapple & mango pulp. When you juice a mango, you don't get tons of juice-- but you do get a nice mango sludge! Go on, take a taste!  After juicing, I put the pineapple mango pulp into an ice cube tray to freeze. I think it will be fun to throw a few cubes into a smoothie or maybe add a few in some sparkly water later on in the day. Perhaps I'll bypass the freezing process next time around and stir some directly into my yogurt!

Cucumber Watermelon Lime Juice

cucumber watermelon lime

Refreshing!! The key to this juice is the lime you squeeze in at the end. Watermelon and cucumber produce the mellowest of juices so it's essential to have something tart in the mix. It really helps bring out the sweetness of the watermelon and depth to the cucumber juice. It's the rug that ties the room together!!

This juice doesn't resemble the synthetic cucumber-watermelon flavor you might get from a frou-frou lotion or a piece of super sweet bubble gum. It's the real deal. Light, pure, mellow and totally refreshing when you add a little bit of sparkly water.  It's something you might find in a ritzy spa. Imagine yourself wearing a cozy bathrobe while sipping on this. Got a mud mask? Put it on! My neighbor and I added a nice amount of rum in our juices last night! Went down like water!

This is going in the summer juicing rotation for sure!

Here is what's in it!
