Our Sunday Adventure!
We wanted to do something different today...something that would take up a large chunk of the day and take advantage of the beautiful weather we've been having in the Bay Area. Casey suggested we go to Roaring Camp in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The last time he went was on a field trip as a kid! Cooper and I were totally down to ride a steam engine train! Here's what we saw:

Found: At work!
Today I was searching for a pair of headphones at work and found this in a drawer. Baker's Chocolate. UNSWEETENED. 4 WHOLE packages. WHAT?! I should mention that I work with my Dad and this is HIS drawer. If you've had Baker's chocolate, you'll know it doesn't taste good. It's not for eating. IT'S FOR BAKING! My brothers tricked me into eating a chunk when I was a kid and I've tried to avoid the stuff since. Seems that my dad eats a chunk every single morning. He says, "It helps lower my cholesterol and has a lot of fiber too!" I think it's pretty gross, but now I know where I get my food hoarding problem from. I also know why he has chocolate breath when we are going over spreadsheets together. Thanks, DAD.
BTW, it's in the top drawer if you ever need to steal some chocolate for baking.
Valentine’s Day 2011
On Valentine's Day we sat around the kitchen table with Cooper and ate frozen pizza. Sounds totally glamorous, right? Don't worry, we exchanged cards. There was love! When we planned our Valentine's day meal, we decided to make it all happen on Sunday, the day before V-DAY. This way we could have time to cook and enjoy a meal together after Cooper went down for the night. No stupid traffic to contend with, no road rage or wiped-out-from-work attitudes between the two of us. Nope! Just a relaxing evening cooking in the kitchen and sharing a bottle of wine...being all adulty, but wearing pajamas while doing so. Nice pajamas. Cuz you know...it's Valentine's Day.
The menu:
- Arugula salad with a fig balsamic dressing with shaved Parmesan
- Bay Scallop Gratin (that made me a scallop lover! Thanks Ina!)
- Risotto Bianco (was good, but would never attempt it if I was on Top Chef! Those judges are harsh!)
The best part? Being surprised by my husband with #19 from my 31 comes before 32 list. We're taking a cooking class together! I'm so glad that I don't have to teach him how to cook! It's gonna be a total riot.
FAIL! FAIL! FAIL!
Today I'm opening up the vault and letting you in on a few of my cooking & baking FAILS! I've got a bunch of pretty pictures wasting precious space on my hard drive because the recipes were bunk or I failed at executing them! It's time to clear up some space!
Ahhh mistakes....We all make them! The most important thing is to learn from them! That's the only way to get better. Here's some failures for ya....
This Lentil & Bulgur Soup sounded too good to be true! I was attracted to the recipe because the ingredients list was short. Little did I know the soup would be short on taste! I tried to add more vinegar to the recipe to wake it up. Unfortunately, the vinegar only made it worse. Parmesan cheese didn't even help it. How lame is that? FAIL.
What’s in my bag??
If you've seen some of my bag posts, you might already know that I've been on the search for THEE PERFECT handbag for what seems like FOREVER. I'm never 100% satisfied with my handbag purchases because I get so close to finding one that's PERFECT and then there's something that always ruins it. The straps, the pockets, the lining, how it doesn't fit all the stuff I have...you name it.

Where did the weekend go?

It's Monday. Sigh...
I'm totally daydreaming about this past weekend. I wish it was still Sunday!
Over the weekend I got to show off my freshly painted toenails & wear some flip flops!
The weather was in the 70s here in the Bay Area! It felt like summer!
Project Magazine Hoard = COMPLETE!
Confession: I'm a magazine hoarder.
I have stacks of magazines spread throughout our house. When I don't make time to read AND sort my magazines, they quickly start piling up. You can imagine how many stacks I have since I have about 8 different subscriptions. My magazine hoard usually rests on my side of the bed, on the coffee table, or on my computer desk (see above). I also have a problem with not putting my cookbooks back in my bookcase! Yes--I'm bad. When I got out of bed this morning and knocked a stack of books on the floor, I knew it was time to tackle my hoard. Today was the day!

365- Weeks 1 & 2
14/365 Pretzel + Sunset
When my fellow food blog buddies Kamran & Shannalee started a Flickr group called Project 365 | Food Bloggers, I didn't hesitate to join. I was thinking of making a resolution to be more creative with my photography this year, so this challenge is just what I need to help exercise my creative muscles! So here's the deal-- Every day for the next year, I'll be posting a food related photo on my flickr stream. At the end of the week, I'll share all 7 photos here. It's been two weeks so far, so here's what I've been up to!
