Hello! It’s my 31st birthday today! A week ago, my horoscope said to treat this month like it was a new year and make some resolutions for myself. I’ve decided to make my own 31 before 32 list. 31 things I want to do before I turn 32- all related to food & my website. So here it goes!
31 comes before 32
- Share an an actual picture of myself on my website.
- Make donuts from scratch.
- Go to the French Laundry (again!)
- Take a class to improve my knife skills.
- Have a nacho party!
- Make my own pizza (and not fail!)
- Go to a farm.
- Make cream puffs for my mom. (She LOVES profiteroles!)
- Make cinnamon rolls from scratch.
- Clean out/organize my kitchen (FOR REAL!)
- Go on a dishcrawl!
- Try a dish with capers and like it!
- Get my drink on with Joy.
- Do a cleanse.
- Make my own soft pretzels.
- Learn how to do canning!
- Make french fries from scratch.
- Hang some of my food photos in my kitchen.
- Cook something with my husband.
- Host a fondue party!
- Have a cookbook party where we all cook from one cookbook!
- Make some killer hot wings for my husband.
- Make crème brûlée!
- Go on a food adventure in Portland, Oregon.
- Make my own cheese from scratch.
- Learn a recipe from my grandma.
- Make pasta from scratch. (maybe with my grandma?)
- Learn how to do latte art!
- Grow some lettuce.
- Try to sell some photos online. (etsy maybe?)
- Meet as many of my online friends as possible!

Nice to finally see your face
Can’t wait to hear how #12 goes, because I strongly dislike capers and take them out of any recipe I cook.
Good luck finishing your list!

I’m going to be in Portland the end of next week! Fly up early before IFBC and meet me?
Happy Birthday! And wow, your son looks so much like you.
Happy birthday, what a fun idea! And you’re sure to do most/all of them, since they are all pretty attainable. Good luck!
Happy birthday!!! I absolutely love your list. I wish I could be there right beside you doing some of them! I want to learn to can, and make pasta from scratch, and how fun would it be to go to a farm!? I can’t wait to hear all about your adventures this year is going to bring.
Oh, and I love the idea of decorating your kitchen with your own food art! That’s definitely incentive for me to learn to take better pictures of my food, because I would love to do that too.
happy birthday!!! great list! i made a list like this…but it is 40 before 40 (2 years for me)! i have been experimenting in canning lately and love it! and nacho party? that sounds genius!
come to chicago and meet me!
chicago is an awesome food city!!
this list is awesome by the way. something we all should do each year! love it!
Just as I suspected: you are ridiculously cute.
Ooh, you look stunning. Happy 31st! I’m turning 30 in a couple of months and working on my 30-before-30 list. Mine includes donuts and a cleanse too. “Cleanout/organize my kitchen” You mean, again? You come across as a super organized person already.
happy birthday!! you do NOT look a day over 25, for serious. keep on doing whatever it is you do!
Can I make a list of all the things on your list I would like to taste and accompany you to?
Love you, lady. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
How about I move in with you for the next year? You can scratch #31 right off then
OMG – you’re adorable! Happy, happy birthday!!
have a an awesome day & many many more!
I hope you have a very happy birthday!!!
Wishing you the happiest of happy birthdays!
First of all, cute hair! Love it! Second of all, happy birthday! Third of all, you are just a baby!
Hope you have a great day and I love your list.
Happy Birthday!! That’s a pretty excellent list.
Lovely to see the face behind this wonderful blog – you’re adorable! Happy birthday and may all your resolutions come true. Let us know if you sell photos online – I love your photography and would definitely be interested!
I am also very jealous of your fabulous shoes and enjoyed your photos of take to work lunches/gorgeous shoes series.
awesome – I kinda thought I’d only ever seen your cute shoes (and baby!) on this blog. I’m 32 (and a half) and it’s a pretty good age, so enjoy your 31st year!
You do look a lot like your babe (or him like you). And I love your list too – I really need to do one of these sometime. I’m in Portland, too, so let me know if you ever want ideas for your eating adventure, but you probably don’t need much help, as you really can’t walk a block w/out finding good food here.
oh, and what’s a dish crawl?
lettuce is super easy to grow – at least here in Oregon, it’s totally thrived in our first year gardening this summer.
You are oh so cute!! Enjoy being 31.
I feel kinda old as I am about to turn 43!!
happy birthday weirdo. i hella heart you!
Happy birthday!! I hope you have a wonderful day!
Happy Bday ,
Keep posting more recipes.. I haven’t tried out any new stuff in a while.

Capers are great! Put them in a tomato salad, or on a pizza (and take care of #6). As for #22, I don’t get the US obsession with hot wings. Care to explain?
I dunno! My husband loves HOT HOT hot wings- so I thought I’d hook him up
I think it’s more about the spicy/sauce than anything.
I have an amazing recipe that a friend of mine made up and he generously gave it to me. The sauce is killer, it is HOT and very very good. I will send it to you to try out. You guys will really enjoy it.
Love your list – very inspiring! Happy Birthday and love your blog!
Have a happy birthday!!
Happy Birthday! May you accomplish all of your 31 before 32 goals!
If I could ‘like’ this, I would!!!
Happy birthday! (just under a week before mine! we’re practically twins!) If this next year finds you in Chicago at all, I know one online friend who’d love to help make your dreams a reality.
Happy birthday!
I have finally finished moving, so let’s get that cookbook group going and knock a few things off your list. A fondue party, pizza, and a cookbook party should be easy!
happy belated birthday! my 21st birthday was four days before yours (aren’t leos the best??) & i can honestly say that in 10 years, on MY 31st birthday, i hope to be where you are in life-happily married with a beautiful child and home, and cooking up a storm! keep it goin girl, you’re great!
Happy belated birthday.Your son looks like you!

Great site! Happy Birthday! What is a “dishcrawl”? Sounds like fun!
GIRL. I haven’t been online enough, I completely missed out. But the happiest of belated birthdays to you, fellow Lady Leo. You make me smile and laugh and drool. Special things. Special gifts, you have. I hope everyone treated you like a mint, and you deserve every good thing that comes your way. Much love!
Love your list, but then again I love lists. Just a heads up the pizza crust recipe in the Dolce Vegan is bomber, even if you’re not vegan. I like your blog
Thanks Elsage! I’ll have to check it out! I like trying vegan stuff!
What a fun list!
I just wanted to let you know that lettuce is pretty easy to grow, just be sure to keep the tops trimmed so it doesn’t flower and stop growing on you… Spinach is easy too, but also needs to be trimmed!
Oh good to know!! Thank you!
I am super late, but the wishes are just as grand as if it were today, happy birthday! it looks like you celebrated it in the best way possible. I love your list! A few are on my own, I am making my own cheese for the first time this week – ricotta. gotta start easy
p.s. you’re beautiful. xoxo
oh wow! you are so pretty
Happy belated.
Happy belated birthday! Thanks for all the sharing!
Capers, you say?
Try orange roughy simmered in butter, olive oil, dill, garlic, pepper, lemon and capers (the smaller ones that aren’t over salted) until it is falling apart, over risotto or couscous with the extra sauciness and veggies, or with tabouleh salad. Mmm.
Our To-Do lists have similar aspirations on them, but I suspect you’ll accomplish most of yours before I do mine! Best of luck to you and your goals this year!
oooh i like this orange butter situation you are talking about!!
I love the idea of an X before Y list!!! I’m starting this year with a 25% time deficit….but I’m going to make a list this week and get started!
BTW, Alton Brown’s soft pretzels are excellent, and a good place to start.
Oh! You’ve got some awesome things on your list…I may need to borrow a few. Or 10.
Go right ahead! Let me know what you knock off!
Soooooo cool. You’ve inspired me. I’m gana do a 25 comes before 26 (even tho I’ll have just half a year to do it, because my bday is in may… I love your blog…
Fun list! It’s awesome
I’ve always wanted to make soft pretzels and do latte art, too! And #26 is just sweet.
I am working my way up to a cleanse right now ( this week I am detoxing from coffee , booze and sugar whoa it was not easy since I just came back from vacation–next week I will leave off flour type items and meat–then I will do the 3 day cleanse the week my kids start school)
I have two books:
“The 3 Day Cleanse” from the founders of Blueprint Cleanse I actually bought this and do not think it is that great they only have a recipe for 2 vegetables cleanse the rest are fruit type smoothies
“Super Cleanse” I got from the library and I like it a lot
Wish me luck!
I start that cleanse next week! Wish me luck!
Just got caught up on my Google Reader after being away for a couple weeks, and I just wanted to tell you that your last couple posts are fantastic and, apologies for the cliche, truly inspirational! I just wrote an email to an advisor from my undergrad university asking for advice about applying to grad school, downloaded the kindle version of the book on the 3-day cleanse, and am now making my own “26 before 27 to-do list” — thanks for the motivation!!
