Shutterbean RSS Feed Check!

Hi friends-

This is a test! If you’re seeing this post in your email inbox, instead of through Follow.it like usual — hi!

I’ve decided to move my blog email updates over to Substack. This means new posts from Shutterbean will now arrive directly in your inbox- cleaner, clearer, and without those weird ads that were showing up before.

Nothing else is changing.
Shutterbean is still Shutterbean.
I’m still over here cooking, documenting life, and leaving little trails of magic on the internet like always.

The only difference is how the posts are delivered to you. You don’t have to do anything.
You’re already subscribed and good to go!

I just wanted to say thank you for your patience while I made this transition. Things might be a little weird as I am doing this while Mercury is in retrograde (crossing fingers).

Anywho!

I’m glad you’re here.
Thanks for reading my work.
Thanks for being part of this corner of the internet with me.

More soon,
Tracy

🖤

P.S. If you enjoy these life updates and want more handwriting practice, journaling prompts, and behind-the-scenes creative process, I also write over at The Handwriting Club on Substack.

Hi! I’d love a post about why you’re making this choice (if you have time & are interested in doing that, of course!) These days, it seems like everyone is moving to Substack, & I’ve got to say I’m kind of bummed about it & have wound up stopping following quite a few folks just because it just got to be too overwhelming for me to have 5-10+ newsletters popping up in my inbox every day. When I follow people in my RSS feed, I feel like I can read posts on my time, but everything stays neatly in one place without posts bothering me for attention constantly until I’ve cleared them. With Substack posts coming through email, it’s much more overwhelming & feels more “chore-like” because of the compulsion to keep a tidy, organized inbox. Not to mention phone notifications, paywalled posts that I often can’t read anyway, etc. I’m trying not to be grumpy about the changing world of the internet, but I’m just genuinely curious why so many creators are abandoning their blogs (that have a unique presence & represent their voice) for Substack (where things are more generic looking & less easy to navigate/search/browse). I’d love to read your thoughts on this to help me understand how this shift is helping creators! Thanks for all you do!

I totally get that. I turned off all of my substack emails because I couldn’t handle my inbox anymore.
Nothing should really change on your end if you read my blog through your preferred RSS feed reader. I made this switch for people who prefer to read my blog through their email rather than reading through a browser, online.

here’s a link if you need to update it:

      https://www.shutterbean.com/feed/

I made the choice because I used follow.it after feedburner left so the people who subscribed to my blog through email would still get my RSS feed emailed to them.
It worked out OK at first but I didnt like that they would send ads in their emails. Last year they took away the ability to read those emailed posts without clicking through their shitty interface, making money off of ads I didn’t weant to be a part of.
Then they wanted me to pay $29/month so people who don’t read my blog from my website can get it emailed to them without all of their ads.

I still have reservations about using Substack, but right now, this is the best choice for me. I intend to post my content here on my website as per usual. I don’t intend on monetizing shutterbean on Substack, so whatever is there will be pulled (via RSS) from my website.

I hope that clears things up!

Thanks for the explanation! That makes so much sense & I didn’t think about people who maybe aren’t getting content through an RSS feed & *want* to receive emails about new content…sometimes I forget that not everyone wants the world to work exactly the way that I do LOL! I’m glad there are enough solutions out there to accommodate everyone’s needs & preferences. I really appreciate you taking the time to explain & to reassure that your blog isn’t going anywhere 🙂
