I like to think that given the opportunity, Oprah and I would be the best of friends. We’d drive across the country together, stopping at every rest stop to get beef jerky and blue corn tortilla chips. I’d teach her how to buy toilet paper and people would constantly stop us to get their picture taken. We’d follow the same diet trends, have our own book club, wear matching diamond pinkie rings and make coffee dates with Nate to look at wallpaper samples. While Oprah was off playing with her dogs, I’d hang out with Gayle and do a few sandwich tastings. The three of us would sit out on the veranda of one of Oprah’s fabulous mansions with stacks of magazines and a fancy bar cart full of Moscow Mules. I’d tell her how I wished I had my own traditional copper mugs for Moscow Mules and a man would appear out of nowhere with a box of 12. We’d get a little tipsy and I’d convince Oprah to get Donald Trump to personally deliver us a Trump turkey burger. It would be his second time eating that burger.
We would have such a good life together Oprah.
I realize that none of this will make sense to you if you aren’t an Oprah lover. The Moscow Mule is Oprah’s favorite drink. I can totally see why. The combo of lime, mint and ginger beer is so sweet, refreshing and thirst quenching that you might not even notice there’s vodka in the mix. In other words, this cocktail will go down EASY. One drink and you’ll be imagining living the good life with the my pal, Oprah Winfrey. Trust.
And we’re off!
This is gonna be easy.
Ginger beer, vodka, simple syrup, lime & mint. That’s it.
Spoon out a little simple syrup.
Pour a shot of vodka into a glass of ice with that simple syrup.
Add in your ginger beer, mint & lime and you’re on your way!!!
Now using your best Oprah voice, introduce a MOSCOOOOOW MUUUULE into your life.

say somethingmmmm! If only Ginger beer was easy to find in Japan… le sigh.
I want this now. Yum!
This looks like something I could drink by the gallon!
Alas, no ginger beer to be found in Germany either!
Yum! I’m so glad you posted a recipe for this I have some ginger beer left over from making Kentucky Bucks last week, and this seems like the perfect way to use it up!
I could definitely go for one of these right now! Question: is Ginger Beer alcoholic or does it just have a deceiving name, like Root Beer?
no alcohol! it’s just like root beer but with ginger.
Thank you for sharing this! When I studied in London 10+ years ago, there was a Smirnoff bottled Mule drink that was popular. It was good, but I’m sure the actual cocktail is much better!
Two things I would love to see you make/try……maybe you have tried them before……
1. French 75
2. Dark and Stormy
This post was hilarious. I make up stories in my head about being friends with famous people too.. glad I’m not the only one! Now I need to try this drink..
1. I love your Oprah voice, Tracy. It makes me laugh every time I think about it.
2. Can we please drink Moscow Mules at the retreat?!
We must!!!!
I L-O-V-E it when you do the Oprah voice on da podcast. It gets me every time.
STEADMAAAANNNNNNNN
ps–I love a Moscow Mule too. Yurm.
Heart you!
heh. i made Moscow Mules after her episode with Gale in Yosemite aired too! YUM.
Love this!
I did not know this was Oprah’s drink! It’s my favorite summer drink and they definitely go down way too easy. We drink them in our white coffee mugs and feel super cool
Ummm. I’m totally trying that tomorrow!
I’ve made several of these since you mentioned them a couple weeks ago! Addicted. What’s the deal with those copper mugs anyways?! Maybe they make the drink colder? At any rate, I omit the simple syrup ANNDDD use 1.5 oz of vodka for EACH drink because I’m wacky like that.
Vodka over simple syrup ANY day!!!
Hilarious intro! You cracked me up!
sounds yummy… is one supposed to drink these while watching oprah before 5pm? just curious if oprah has any drinking rules. and… haha your road trip with oprah is a good one, i can picture you guys gnawing on some beef jerky together, that’s so sweet.
Oprah would encourage 3pm drinking, no doubt!
i love it when i already have all the ingredients in the house to make a new-to-me cocktail, thanks!
High five for having all the good stuff waiting to be exploited!
I can hear it now…while sipping Moscow Mules, you’d do your Oprah voice, and Oprah would do her Tracy voice…
Thanks for this easy recipe! I love Ginger Mules, so I’m sure this’ll become a favorite too.
YUM I LOVE MOSCOW MULES!!!!! This looks so easy!
Ha! I would like to join you at Oprah’s house, ok? I’m still sad I never got to go to a taping!
PS: In England they have alcoholic ginger beer called Crabbie’s! It’s good!
Oprah would love us. This I know.
I looked up copper mugs on Amazon. They’re expensive! But I’m going to make some Moscow Mules at home anyways, I think my pint glasses are good enough. My current favorite drink is: Ginger Beer + Spiced Rum + a bunch of fresh lime juice. (I think this is would be a Dark and Stormy if it weren’t for the lime juice!)
Riiiiight??? Dark and stormy is next!
Haha – this post reminds me of that episode of 30 Rock when Liz Lemon is hopped up on pain killers and thinks she is sitting next to Oprah on the plane and becomes her bff. Which totally could happen by Moscow Mule #3 or 4! Cheers!
I loved that scene!!
totally love moscow mules also. i think i already said that when you showed a picture of them earlier. the copper mugs make all the difference, but i reckon a glass jar works at home, right??! totally need to get my drink on…
Jars are just as good. Just sayin’
Ooohh…I love the addition of mint to the Moscow Mule. They’re my favorite cocktail and I’ve never had mint in them. Thanks for sharing!
Mint MAKES it!!
I loved this

Moscow Mules really are one of the greatest drinks ever – I’d say they’re just behind a Pimm’s Cup really!
Word!
I barely followed the references as I watched Oprah like once a year but this was still my favorite post ever. Tell me you’re also not obsessed with the 30 Rock episode where Liz is all “I’ma call you back. I snitten next to Borpo”.
Favorite episode ever….well that and the barefoot contessa one!!
Tracy, I have thought several times this week that I want to make a Moscow Mule at home and then I saw this post! It’s a sign that I must get off my computer and go drink
Love that you use the “Oprah voice” too btw
Hahaha! You have no idea how often I use her voice in my head! Make these at home looooove them!
Moscow mules you say?
4 words: martins west redwood city.
Go now – copper mugs and everything (and eat a bunch of scotch quail eggs there while you’re at it)!!
YES!!!!!!!!!! lookie here:

Tracy, mint and ginger really make me think about summer. So, as autumn is now coming, this cocktail will be a nice way to say goodbye to sunny days
oh my god oprah voice.
I, too, had flashbacks to Liz’s delirious Oprah encounter on 30 Rock. Love. And for what it’s worth, I think Oprah would think you’re pretty cool too, Mz. Tracy.
ooh i love these but i never knew that was what they were called. and all this time i thought oprah was drinkin some fancy drink!
Love! Just had one at dinner last night. Ginger beer is my new favorite mixer!
HA! Oprah probably hasn’t bought toilet paper in 30 years! She’ll definitely need some lessons on it. My fav drink is a gin gin mule. If I’m desperate and only have vodka, I’ll totally make one of these. And Reed’s ginger beer is my all time favorite!
perfect drink!
This will totally be my drink for the upcoming summer. After tasting this I could totally be friends with Oprah too
so i confess that i did not make these myself. but while i was out in SF this weekend i saw moscow mule listed at a bar. i was so excited because i had seen them here (i started squealing. at a full bar. im an adult. awkward). i proceeded to drink just a bit too many. thank you.
I’ve never watched Oprah but I have to say, she has great taste in drinks! Are Moscow Mules like Long Island Iced Tea: sweet and with a kick?
I totally imagined your Oprah voice when you said: MOSCOOOOOW MUUUULE
ALWAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! with the Oprah voice.
