House Tour: The Living Room

home tour: living room

I’ve been itching for a decorating project lately so I used this past rainy weekend to decorate the mantle in our living room. I figured that while I was taking pictures of the new mantle decor, I’d give you a little tour of our living room (we hang out here just as much as we do in the kitchen).

Let’s start with the mantle. If you’ve been here for awhile, you probably already know that I like to decorate our mantle for Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day & Spring. I totally spaced and skipped Valentine’s Day this year. Oh well.

I decided to do something pretty/simple for Spring, using what I already had around the house.

I’m loving how open it is. Normally we aren’t able to see our reflection this well because tend to spread things out over the entire mantle. This year I just grouped things on both sides. I like how the branches frame it.

As you know, I love fonts so I decided to put a little something special on my mantle.

It’s APRIL! Can you believe it?

I think it adds a nice personal touch. I added that little bar of polka dots to balance things out.

I also added little bits of tissue paper on the leftover silver branches from my Christmas decor to make it more spring-like.

Here’s a wider shot of the right hand side. That little striped ball is a Jonathan Adler salt shaker 🙂

Of course…there’s always a vintage camera or two hanging out in my living room. This one was my grandfather’s.

Continuing on the left hand side, I used the cherry blossoms I made last year. I couldn’t bear to get rid of them.

When you’re sitting on the couch, or looking in the mirror you can see this wall of of art. I posted about it when we first moved in.

That’s a silhouette I did of Cooper when he was a toddler. Never would I have thought I’d be into yellow, but I really do love it here.

Here’s the view from the couch.

We have two identical couches. It’s cool cuz we can swap them when we want. My mother-in-law bought me those awesome LOVE & LUST pillows by Jonathan Adler. I absolutely adore them! I found the mustard/gold pillows at Cost Plus World Market a long time ago and the b&w patterned ones are from IKEA. I found those lamps in the back at KMART over 6 years ago. Such a score at $20 each.

When you’re sitting on the couch there’s a small dividing wall that cuts up the living room & the sitting room.

You can see a little peak into my bedroom, dining room & kitchen through here.

So that’s my living room.

I’ll show you the sitting room next!

Stay tuned.

Dude when I’m all grown up, I need a house like yours! This is amaze-sauce.

  • Jane M

At first I thought the pictures in frames were over the mantel until I FINALLY figured out it was a reflection! Very inspiring room/mantel and tchotkes indeedy. P.S. Jonathan Adler lives in my parents building in FLA by the way :).

    • Tracy

whaaaaaaaaaat!! insanity. i’d invite myself over if I were you.

      • Jane M

My parents met him and his partner Simon Doonan a few times, but I rarely get down to FLA. When I’ve been there, they have not! Think they live all over the world actually, but their furniture on their terrace is quite lovely 🙂 if I do say so myself!

  • Melissa // thefauxmartha

    I like your style. Mucho!

  • DANA

Look, I hope this doesn’t offend you, but when I saw the first photo I instantly thought of Beetlejuice. To me, that’s not a bad thing. love, love, LOVE what you’ve got going on.

We were forced to rip up some pretty nasty carpet in the playroom of our house last summer. Before putting new flooring down I took a chance and painted the room a shade of gray. I’ve been itching to bring those colors into the hall and our living room ever since. Seeing how all of your colors work so beautifully together has convinced me I need to take the plunge and just do it. Thanks for the little peak into your house.

    • Tracy

DO IT!!!! You won’t regret it. The reason why I picked gray is that it works with several colors so I can swap accessories out when I’m getting antsy to redecorate.

  • Cate

Aaahhh I LOVE LOVE LOVE your house!

  • Becky

Makes me want to own a home so I can paint it and make it cozy. Loft apartment will do for now. Dream, Bekzy, dream.

  • Stephie @ Eat Your Heart Out

Hi Tracy is the April font drawing by hand or computer? If by computer, what font program did you use? With a drawing tablet?

Great post! Seeing the inside of people’s houses is just as good as seeing a what’s inside my purse post. Many thanks!

  • Jenny

Your living room is lovely and very tastefully decorated!

  • Julie

I absolutely love the color scheme! And I love that you have a traditional living room with couches facing one another then a TV! That set-up is amazing and I’ll have to do that one day.

    • Tracy

Thanks! The two couch thing works really well when we have company over. We can all face each other so easily 🙂

  • Isabel Quinzanos

You have a LOVELY home. I really admire your consistency in style, and the feeling that you put into it. From listening to the podcast, reading the blog, and such (I really wish this comes across not stalker like) I can see you in everything you’ve shown. Its not a pre-constructed house, it really reflects those within it. Congratulations.

  • Elexis

Tracy, your place is so cute! I was always curious what your home looked liked, show more! I love how it’s one theme, my boyfriend and I are always compromising on posters, furniture organization, etc….so sometimes it gets a little crazy in our place 🙂

  • Zoe

Wow, you have a BEAUTIFUL home! Straight out of a magazine.
    xx

  • mjb

The first photo looks like it could have been taken in black and white and then colored! That’s dedication to a color scheme, but it means the colors you have pop that much more!

  • rachel

hey! first time on your site via joythebaker. p.s. i just made your arugula avocado salad and it was divine. hit my postpartum craving spot on 🙂 i wanted to ask you. what color is your living room walls? I’ve been looking for a good grey for ours and i ALWAYS love choosing a color i’ve “seen” vs. using the 1″x1″ paint swatches 😉 thanks!

      Hi Rachel!

I moved and all of my paint cans are not with me, so I am not sure. I’m sorry I haven’t gotten back to you, I can’t access them at this point!
