Creating a Homework Station

Creating a Homework Station is a great way to get yourself ready for the new school year! See more on Shutterbean.com

Yesterday, I spent an hour Creating a Homework Station for Cooper so we can get ahead of the school year.  I know he’s going to have a lot more homework this year so we might as well be prepared to tackle it, right??

What goes in our homework station? Let’s make a list:

Homework stations start with a caddy.

Here’s ours:

This is what our homework station looked like after last year. Time to clean it out!

A lot of random things end up in there if we aren’t diligent….

Dump it out and SORT. That’s my favorite part!

I decided that we should use some labels.  If I make it fun to look at, I’ll want to use it, right?

Perhaps it will make us more likely to put things back where they belong?

Whatever it takes!

(tape / favorite pen / other favorite pen)

And this is what it looks like inside now.

As you can see, I used mason jars to separate the crayons/pencils/pens.

On the other side, I actually used small beakers for the erasers and paperclips.

I think this will be the key to us keeping the caddy nice and neat.

I slipped some index cards in there because we could always use some!

I added the labels on the caddy and then put packing tape on top to make sure the label stays on longer.

Creating a Homework Station will help you corral all of your office supplies.

I hope this inspires you to come up with a good solution for your homework needs!

If you’re also an office supply lover, you might love:

I think this is a great idea!

  • Marla Solano

    Another great idea! Good job!!

  • Danielle

This is a great idea! I’m definitely going to do this. The homework situation is out of control and usually we spend the first 10 minutes just looking for a pencil! Need to get organized : )

  • Marisa

Okay. So, I’m a 30-something college instructor with no homework of my own, and I’m totally going to make this for myself. My office is a mess of pens, papers, and every electronic charger I’ve ever owned. This would make it infinitely easier to find what I need.

  • Leah

Love this! I’ve been wanting to make an art station for my 3year old and had something like this in mind. Can’t wait to organize! Just need to find a nice caddy like yours…

  • Sina

This is a grand idea! I especially love that you can transport the homework station easily, because, let’s be honest: homework is rarely attended to at the desk, but instead at the kitchen table. Which is fine, but you’ll be happy to have all the supplies easily put away afterwards to enjoy a snack.
    Thanks for the inspiration!
Oh, and we have an hourglass over here to measure the time for homework, for it not to seem eeeeendless. My kid really likes it and finds it motivating. So that will go into our homework station for sure.

  • Jess

I loved this idea! I found a little bin box thing at Target and we went from messy table with half the stuff on the floor in under a day, to a messy desk that we love to organize and keep clear and neat without being told 30 times. Its been a huge success so far! Thanks Trace!!!

    • Tracy

YAY!!!!!!!!! We used it tonight and put everything back. It’s sooooo helpful!

  • Stela

Great idea! I already have that same container with a bunch of crayons and pencils in it..a mess. And I have the little jars I wasn’t sure what to use for.
    Thanks!
