Drinks to Warm the Heart

Don’t you love a warm boozy drink? Not only do you have a way to warm your hands, but you get to warm your insides too.  Today I put together a little roundup of my favorite warm/boozy drinks. Cuz it’s Halloween and you might wanna bring a nice hot drink in your travel coffee mug while you’re trick-or-treating.

Pear Cornmeal Cake w/ Rosemary Syrup

Pear Cornmeal Cake // shutterbean

Say hello to my new favorite cake! It sure is lovely, isn’t it?  It’s such a lady-like cake. Let’s have a tea party with it. Let’s also use up all those pears we have sitting on our kitchen counter. OK?

Pear Cornmeal Cake // shutterbean

It’s a cornmeal cake studded with pears and sweetened with a rosemary syrup infusion on top. It’s kind of like cornbread meets cake meets spoon bread meets poached pears meets LET ME JUST HAVE ONE BITE and it turns into two slices CAKE. I should also note that I sat on the floor as I ate this yesterday. You gotta do what you gotta do for good light, people.

Pear Cornmeal Cake // shutterbean

This cake is perfect for breakfast or an afternoon snack with a good book & a cup of hot tea. I suggest you do that this weekend!

OUTFITTING: Gray/Red/Yellow

OUTFITTING: GRAY/RED/YELLOW

Autumn colors wash out my skin tone. WOMP WOMP. Orange, crimson, brown, burgundy &  eggplant are all no-go. BUT!  I really love a good GRAY/RED/YELLOW combo during this time of year and here is an example of my perfect Autumn weekend outfit.  It’s casual yet makes a bold statement.  I love grays because they act as a great neutral. Look at how much the yellow and red POP when paired with gray. I’m ready to go on a city art museum adventure with fancy cake & coffee in this look.

Spinach Bacon Salad

Spinach Bacon Salad // shutterbean

I had a fantastic weekend of eating. Doughnuts, tater tots with fried eggs, sausage & cheese, a mushroom burger with fries, bourbon, pumpkin ice cream sandwiches…THE WORKS. While I’d like to think I’m gonna spend the next week living off of greens, smoothies & green juices, I know myself all too well.

Spinach Bacon Salad // shutterbean

I know that I my tastebuds still want something hearty after eating excessively. I know that a shock to the system with a little green injection is what I need, but if I don’t add something with a little ooooomph, I’m liable to turn EAT WEEKEND into EAT WEEK. I just know this.

Spinach Bacon Salad // shutterbean

This salad straddles the line between healthy & indulgent. There’s spinach, tomato & avocado–all healthy things. But, there’s also bacon and the combination of the bacon and slivered almonds= CRUNCH TOWN. How could I forget to mention the dressing? It’s super savory with the soy sauce and the creamy avocado base! It’s everything I want in a salad when I’m trying to be good yet I still wanna be bad.

This is the story of my life.
