Last year I went on a turmeric tea kick (thanks, Heidi!).  You can see the base for it in this Turmeric Toddy recipe.  I had a cup of the non boozy version every afternoon for a month straight. This year I tried the Turmeric Latte from Nutrition Stripped and was instantly hooked.

Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory power spice. When it’s paired with warm almond milk, coconut oil, honey, and cinnamon, pure magic happens.  For the past three weeks I’ve been enjoying a cup in the afternoon when I’m feeling particularly crunchy/tired and in need of something sweet. The fat from the coconut oil helps satisfy me until dinner- something I thought was absolutely impossible.

Let’s gather our ingredients.

If you follow me on snapchat (tshutterbean), you’ve already seen that I have these ingredients at my desk at work!

When I’m at home, I steam the almond milk with coconut oil. It makes it frothy and delicious. Alternately, you can put it in a saucepan over the stove and whisk it.

Stir it all in.

You can play around with your ingredients too. Sometimes I grate ginger in there or add a little bit of ground ginger. It creates a nice spicy vibe.

Also, if you want to make your own almond milk, check out my recipe!

Don’t forget to add a little bit of salt. I think it balances out the sweet quite nicely.

This sounds delicious. I’ve been adding turmeric to a lot of my dishes lately, from canned soup to eggs. I believe to get the full anti-inflammatory benefit of turmeric (curcumin) you need to add some black pepper, too.

Glad you enjoyed this one Tracy! It’s my go-to for an afternoon pick me up OR the Coffee Elevated which I have a hunch you’ll love 😉 Have a good (productive) one! xM

This sounds delicious! Do you whisk the coconut oil and almond milk together on a stove when you make this at work? I’m wondering if the microwave might work too. Thanks for sharing!

    • Tracy

Nope! I just use the microwave and stir it really fast with a fork 😉

I LOVED the turmeric tequila toddy mixture you made a while ago, and made it the non alcoholic way a ton after you first posted it (and sometimes the alcoholic way..). Then I found the superfood latte recipes from The First Mess and loved them too. This looks awesome! Always looking for caffeine alternatives for that afternoon slump. Thank you for sharing!

Perfect timing on this! I’ve been experimenting with turmeric lattes since my usual espresso has been causing me stomach troubles (ughhh). I HAVE to try this version! Pinned!

I like golden milk, nice on a cold day. I read somewhere that a bit of black pepper is important to increase the absorption of the curcumin in the turmeric…?

  • Emily

I just made one of these for a Friday night pick-me-up/treat! So unusual, yummy and super comforting!

    Yum,
what a lovely recipe :) I am making myself a very similar tumeric drink but I have yet not tried it with coconut oil or almond drink!
Will try to add the coconut oil in mine next time – does the flavour of it come trough ? Since I am not much a big fan of the coconut oil taste even when one of my favourite dessert is my oats and coconut chocolate balls 😀
Thank you for your lovely recipe :)

I’ve been avoiding turmeric and coconut oil beverages, thinking they were just too weird….well, I tried this last night and it was amazing! And then I went and made another one this morning I liked it so much!

    • Tracy

I was also super skeptical about the coconut oil but I love how indulgent it makes the drink! Feels like a real treat. Glad you tried it!

  • Jeanette

Hi, this sounds amazing but I am allergic to nuts. I can have coconut though. Would regular milk work?

  • Esraa Bassiouni

I really don’t enjoy turmeric that much, but I think I will try it your way.

That was delicious and simple! I only had plain almond milk, so just added some vanilla extract, which worked great.

  • Emily @ Life on Food

I am totally trying this today! Golden milk here I come.

  • Goldie

I was very skeptical of this concoction when I read the recipe but goodness it is SO good. I just finished my first one and I was so amazed. It was SO yummy. Thanks for another great recipe!!

  • Kirsten

I made this in the micro using plain soy milk. I like the taste, but the spices didn’t disolve enough, they are getting stuck in my throat. Do you have any suggestions?

    • Tracy

      Try whisking it!

      • Kirsten

I did, and used my immersion blender.

        • Tracy

The spices don’t dissolve completely. There will be some lingering at the bottom of the mug. If you’re not into it, then maybe you can steep it and strain it and proceed from there. I actually kind of like it, but I can see why some aren’t into it.

  • Cena

This sounds amazing! Def going to have to test it out! I work at starbucks, maybe i’ll be super sneaky and try it at work!

Just curious, what kind of milk steamer do you have at home? I’ve been looking into getting one because I’m addicted to lattes now, and would love to just make them at home!
